The skin, which is the largest organ in the human body, absorbs about 80% of what it comes in contact with. The ingredients used in commercial beauty products like oils, lotions, perfumes and scrubs get absorbed right into the bloodstream. These ingredients which are toxic are known to cause cancer, allergies, congenital disabilities and other heart-related diseases.
A great natural alternative to these ingredients is coffee. Coffee has properties that help exfoliate the skin, and it also reduces the appearance of cellulite on our skin. The main chemical in coffee is known as caffeine – a natural antioxidant. When you take coffee in the wee hours of the morning, caffeine in the coffee soaks through your skin, and invigorates the body and mind, reducing any such appearance of cellulite to the barest minimum. It also makes your skin feel firmer when touched while glowing flawlessly. The caffeine in coffee also dilates the blood vessels, increases blood flow, and decreases water retention, all of which causes a tightening effect.
What’s more? Caffeine when applied in a topical manner to the skin, pressurizes create narrow the blood vessels under the skin and this helps to reduce swelling and to de-puff eyes. It has always been recommended to use eye creams that have caffeine as an active ingredient in them.
Used together with coconut oil, organic sugar or salt and other natural ingredients you have in your kitchen, this homemade do-it-yourself coffee body scrub will keep your skin not only moisturized but also smooth and glowing.
- 1 cup of ground organic coffee.
- 1 cup of organic sugar or salt.
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil(organic)
- 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 full tablespoon vanilla extract.
Melt the coconut oil and allow to cool but not solidify (this ensures your exfoliants do not dissolve in the coconut oil). Add the other ingredients and mix thoroughly in a bowl. After washing your body, gently massage the scrub into the wet skin for approximately 60 seconds per area, which has the highest concentration of cellulite. After that, rinse with some warm water.
It is best to make use of a tub stopper while in your shower or bath as you use this scrub, so you can remove it safely from your shower after use, to get rid of all the waste as opposed to letting it go down your shower drain.
Store the body scrub in an airtight container or mason jar. The coffee body scrub can be used on your entire body for greater exfoliation, every day or at least twice a week.
